A new era in
Geostationary comms
Since the 1960s, Geostationary satellites – orbiting in perfect sync with earth’s rotation – have been the backbone of global communications. Billions of people around the world rely on low cost GEO for their broadcast, broadband and safety services. However, the high cost of deployment of large GEO satellites means the full potential of GEO hasn’t yet been realized.
The world’s first small commercial GEO SmallSat
HummingSat’s small size, high performance and lower cost is now rejuvenating GEO communications to better connect and protect the world.

Shaping the Future of Satcoms
Pushing the
final frontier
The high cost of launching conventional GEO satellites means niche markets remain unaddressed and smaller or medium-sized nation-states are unable to afford their own sovereign and secure communications capability through Space.
With markets shifting from heritage broadcast services to broadband connectivity, new agile satellite solutions are needed for telecom operators and nations.
Rejuvenating Geostationary communications
HummingSat is the world’s first commercial SmallSat for GEO. Its high performance, combined with a lower cost of build and launch contributes to changing the game in GEO.

Weighing approximately 1,000 kg, HummingSat provides governments and organizations with a range of lower cost, incremental options to consider. Whether it's replacing aging GEO satellites, enhancing existing transponder capacity to introduce new services, or even establishing their first sovereign or national security service.

HummingSat has been designed from first principles to meet the challenge of 15 year missions in the harsh conditions of Geostationary orbit. While HummingSat's payload leverages SWISSto12's proprietary innovation, HummingSat also leverages components with proven reliability in Space, delivering the reliability of larger, conventional GEO satellites at a fraction of the size and cost.

SWISSto12 and the European Space Agency are working together to deliver the first commercial Geostationary Small Satellite in orbit, unleashing a new class of telecommunication satellite.
Working with the best in satellite technology

Partnering with ESA
SWISSto12 has partnered with the European Space Agency (ESA)
SWISSto12’s HummingSat product line received over €40+ million in backing from the European Space Agency, accelerating the development of it’s GEO SmallSat HummingSat. In partnership with ESA, SWISSto12 aims to enhance global connectivity and drive innovation in Europe’s Space sector.

Launching
with Intelsat
Intelsat 45, and Ku band FSS BSS replacement satellite
SWISSto12 has been selected by Intelsat to produce the Intelsat 45 (IS-45) satellite using its innovative HummingSat design. Scheduled for launch in 2026, the small Ku-band satellite will support Intelsat’s media and network customers.

Launching with Viasat
Inmarsat will launch 3x HummingSat operating in L-band
Inmarsat/Viasat has chosen SWISSto12’s HummingSat technology to build three I-8 satellites. These satellites will strengthen Inmarsat’s global L-band network, enhancing critical safety and emergency services to ensure network resilience and extend global coverage for safety operations into the future.
